I just remembered a couple other good quotes from Flannery O’Connor for your consideration:
“Only if we are secure in our beliefs can we see the comical side of the universe.”
“All human nature vigorously resists grace because grace changes us and the change is painful.”

My I suggest the following quotes:
From The Road, by Cormac McCarthy: “All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one’s heart have a common provenance in pain.”
From The Moviegoer, by Walker Percy: “Hatred strikes me as one of the few signs of life remaining in the world. This is another thing about the world which is upsidedown: all the friendly and likable people seem dead to me; only the haters seem alive.”
A personal quote from Flannery O’Connor: “The truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it.”
Thanks for listening. I need t-shirts of my favorite Southern gothic writers!

Great site; I would love to see a Sigmund Freud T-shirt. I think he’d “fit in” quite nicely!

What a great selection! How about Longfellow for a future shirt? “A Psalm of Life,” “The Rainy Day,” or “The Arrow and the Song” are very quotable.

This is an outstanding idea, the entire concept is original and very interesting.

So, for years I’ve had this idea about a website which features regular everyday t-shirts with an iconic image of a classic writer: highbrow but not presumptuous. I figured I couldn’t be the only person with the idea, but still couldn’t find anything like it. But one day (today) everything changed when I searched “Tolkien not all who wander are lost” on Google just for kicks. I was eventually led here, and couldn’t be happier. I just ordered my first shirt–the Truman Capote–and can’t wait until it gets here! In the meantime, I plan on saving money to get more as well as spread the word about this site. Thanks and good luck!

I am very very happy to have found this site… I love your selection. Though I think you’ve overlooked a wonderful opportunity for quoting Oscar Wilde, who was not only a dramatist, but a wannabe poet, a lightning-lucky novelist and longtime dabbler into critique and philosophical exchange a la Plato.
Congrats.
I do wish you’d change the quote on the Allen Ginsberg shirt to something more passionate, though… something not on a theory of poetry itself. Then I would buy it, immediately. I probablty will anyway, but we’ll see…
This is a priceless concept.

I love this site! Just discovered it and as an English major who wears screened t’s everyday and has an internet shopping addiction, this has become my new favorite site within the past 5 minutes. I do have one question/request…I love the site’s logo and was wondering if it was available in a t-shirt? and if so where is the link?

Hello Literary Rags:
Just to give you a little insight; I perused the highly visible “Cafe Press” web site(s) and came to find out that they sell just about everything that can be put on a T-shirt, but care about NOTHING. Their whole game is: throw it against the wall and see what sticks — so when it come to literature YOU ARE IT! You actually care. I commend you. Keep up the good work, and let’s let the Cafe Presses of the world choke on their gluttony!!!
A fan forever.

I love these shirts. I would really love to see a quote about ethics for Aristotle. Do you take custom orders if there is a certain quote wanted?
January 27th, 2009 at 4:31 pm

new t-shirts for different authors every time I come to this website.

Presently I own Tolkien and Tolstoy T-shirts.
I sometimes wear them when I teach my English
classes–it’s nice to instigate discussions of
literature in the most ordinary places, too.
Is there any possibility of doing an A.R. Ammons
t-shirt? Thanks!

June 4th, 2008 at 10:55 am
What happened to all of your old posts?
Great shirts! I am the proud owner of three, which I wear frequently! People are always asking me to stop so they can read the backs, and I tell them were to get their own!
You guys still have not been to Millville for our 3rd Friday Art walk. You need to meet Amy from Bogarts Books - a great little book store.

Absolutely fantastic shirts! I have several, and never tire of people asking me to stop so they can read them more closely. Thought provoking, they all make important points that have been made before … and forgotten.

Seriously cool shirts… but you’re missing one necessary fellow. Poe. Just in case his importance has escaped you, here are a few little known facts: He was the first American to make a living solely from his writing. Granted he went hungry many nights, but he proved it could be done. Poe also fought for the new concept of “copyrights” for American writers and was the father of the whodunit genre. Please consider this quote for a Poe shirt “Truth is not always in a well. In fact, as regards the more important knowledge, I do believe that she is invariably superficial.” (from “The Murders in the Rue Morgue”) Thanks for giving Edgar a second thought. Sincerely, Holly
